If you're still attempting night landings with 55 or 100 watt halogen globes, the Combo Light is quite literally a night and day difference. With the Combo light you will be able to see the runway for the first time ever! Each year at Oshkosh we get folks who wait in line just to thank us and testify to that statement!
The Flyleds Combo light is a PAR36 sized light specifically designed for tail dragger aircraft. The top light module is angled downwards by 20 degrees and is fitted with a wider spread lens, perfectly suited for taxiing.
Rather than aiming the light on one wing high and the light on the other wing low, with two Combo lights fitted you get a whole lot of light aimed straight ahead for landing, and you can then still see down both sides of the runway and taxiways when the tail is on the ground.
Installing two Combo lights will revolutionize your night landing experience.
"I installed two Flyleds Combo lights when the plane was out of service for the CI and flew with the lights for the first time last night. AAAAAAAmazing! These things are REALLY bright.
I fly an Airbus for my day job and now my little RV-3 doesn't lag by much in terms of runway illumination!" RW, Colorado.
New for 2024, our Mk.II design is much simpler to assemble and is easier to install into your leading edge light bays (only, it won't fit in most RV's wingtips). The board can be trimmed as required, right down to a 4" diameter circle. The Combo light will fit into your existing Van's RV light bay, or easily added to a Duckworks Aviation light bay kit. Your existing rectangular light mounting bracket will need to have the hole enlarged a little to clear the heatsinks, but the bracket is easily removed from the wing with four screws and accomplished in minutes out on the bench with a dremel tool.
Thanks to Gus for the video below, who installed two Combo lights and our "The Essentials" Flyleds kit in his RV-6A.
"The installation was easy! Overall, I had this all done in a total of six hours. It was really a fun project because I like electronics and kits rather than off the shelf items."
Supplied un-assembled as the completed light PCBs, heatsinks and collimating lenses, the light requires about 20 minutes of assembly time using just one screwdriver.
Assembly instructions are available here and a general video guide is shown here:
With our large heatsinks this is not a "drop-in" replacement for a PAR36 light in a space constrained light fitting such as in a Cessna. However having bigger heatsinks means we can use much more powerful LEDs to deliver deliver far more lumens!
Yes you can buy cheaper lights in this size but none of them will have anywhere near the light output, and especially continuously, that the Combo Light has. Compare our specs, and let us know if you think we've been outdone! No one has ever challenged us on this...
For those of you comparing us to the cheap PAR36 'tractor' lights on Amazon: You get what you pay for...
The board size is 136 x 105 mm (5.4" x 4.1"), and is made from easily shaped and drilled 1.6mm aluminium.
The heatsinks extend 70mm behind the board, and the collimating lenses extend 27mm in front.
Weight 425g/15oz.
Sold individually.
"I just completed installing my Combo landing/taxi lights. The improvement in the light compared to the lights it replaced is pretty amazing. Thanks for the great product!" Robert O, TX.
"I replaced the standard halogens in my -7 with the Combo set and WigWag Module a couple of years back. I'm absolutely rapt with them and have no issues seeing the runway when landing/taxiing at night, nor does anyone miss me in the daylight!" Steve J, NZ.
